Hall on the northwest edge of Gotland |
|
|
Hall parish is located on the northwestern peninsula of the
Swedish isle of Gotland in the Baltic sea. To the west the Baltic sea limits the
parish and to the east the Kappelshamnsviken bay. To the south Hall perish has a
border towards Hangvar parish including the nearby village of
Kappelshamn.
The highest point in the parish is the Hallshuk cliff 45 meters above sea level. Hall has no shops, no cafés and no restaurants, but still it is very worth-while visiting. Hall is thus host to a lot of spectacular nature including the second largest nature reserve on Gotland. Here you can find rare flowers and even golden eagle.
The people of Hall are mainly occupied with sheep breeding taking care of the whool in particular. Hall has also a limestone quarry where the stone is still quarried manually giving the stone a rare and special finish. Recently a wine-yard has been located to Hall, promising an interesting future for the parish.
While in Hall, do not miss to pay a visit to the medevial church or to the old doomed ox-thresher, one of two of its kind on Gotland. Hall is easiest reached from the main town Visby (42 km away) on Gotland by car or by bike. To Gotland you travel either by plane from e.g. Stockholm or by ferry from the ports in Oskarshamn or Nynashamn on the Swedish east coast. During summertime you can rent the former school in Hall if you want to stay overnight. You can send an e-mail to find out more about this possibility.
The former school in Hall hosts three appartments which could be rent during summertime.
